How to use the Highlight PDF
- Open your contract, course reading, or handbook to display its pages in continuous view.
- Drag a rectangle across the terms, policy rules, or quotes you wish to flag.
- Pick your preferred markup color from Yellow, Green, Pink, or Orange.
- Select "Download PDF" to save a finalized document with crisp, readable highlighted passages.
Contract clause reviews, study notes, and color-coded markups
Reviewing multi-page commercial leases, vendor agreements, and classroom assignments requires distinct visual cues to flag obligations, deadlines, and key terms. The tool applies a clean, tinted overlay at approximately 35% opacity across the selected region. This balanced transparency keeps the printed typeface beneath dark, sharp, and easy to read. Users can alternate between four distinct colors—classic Yellow as default, along with Green, Pink, and Orange—to differentiate various topics or assign responsibilities across teams.
When reading through lengthy reports or reading packets, pages render dynamically as you scroll through the document. You can easily adjust any placed highlight by dragging its position, stretching its coverage with corner handles, or nudging it with keyboard arrows (holding Shift moves in 10 pt steps). If a passage was marked in error, clear it using the Delete key, the bin icon, or reverse your action with "Undo" or Ctrl+Z.
Searchable underlying text, universal reader support, and permanent output
A common problem with basic reader markups is that external devices or web browsers sometimes fail to display floating comment layers. In this tool, selecting "Download PDF" writes the colored highlights directly into the document page vector content. At the same time, the text beneath the highlight remains fully selectable and searchable. Students and colleagues can still search for phrases or copy highlighted citations to their notes without obstruction from the colored box.
If you need to enclose tables, charts, or warning notices with an outline instead of a solid fill, switch to "Box" to add borders in Thin, Medium, or Thick line weights. The updated document saves with -edited.pdf added to the original name, leaving your master syllabus or contract unchanged. For additional desk workflows, you can join multiple readings with Merge PDF, shrink files for email using Compress PDF, or add sequential numbering with Add page numbers.
Questions
Can students still select and copy text that has been highlighted?
Yes. The semi-transparent highlight layer does not restrict text selection, so words underneath remain fully searchable and copyable.
Do these highlights work on smartphones and tablets?
Yes. The editing canvas supports touch interaction on mobile devices, and the exported highlights display identically across mobile PDF viewers.
Will highlights vanish if someone opens the PDF in an older PDF viewer?
No. Highlights are embedded directly into the document page content rather than saved as comments, ensuring they show up in every PDF reader and print correctly.
