Convert PNG to PDF

Screenshots of an order confirmation, error messages for a support case, or a set of charts for a report are easier to send as one PDF than as loose PNG files. The images are stored without loss, so small on-screen text stays readable.

How to use the PNG to PDF converter

  1. Add the PNG files and order them with the arrows.
  2. Choose the page size and margin.
  3. Press Convert to PDF and download the document.

Lossless storage

PNG pixels go into the PDF with Flate, the same lossless compression PNG itself uses, so the pages match the originals and the PDF is usually about as big as the PNG files together.

Transparent areas are preserved, which helps with logos and cut-out signatures. On a white page they simply look white, while a layout program placing the PDF on a coloured background will show that colour through.

Screenshots on paper

A 2560-pixel-wide screenshot with “Same as the image” becomes a page over 26 inches wide, because pages are sized at 96 pixels per inch. Choose A4 or Letter when the PDF will be printed or attached to a formal document.

On a fixed paper size, wide captures get landscape pages and are scaled down within the margin, keeping their proportions.

Getting the order right

Files arrive in the order your system lists them, normally alphabetical. Because most screenshot tools put the date and time at the start of the name, captures usually end up in the order they were taken.

Move any image with the arrows; the number shown next to it is the page it becomes.

Questions

Why is the PDF so large?

PNG is lossless, so photos saved as PNG are heavy and the PDF inherits that. Compress PDF can recompress them afterwards.

Can I add JPG files too?

This page accepts PNG only. Image to PDF takes JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and other formats together.

Do 16-bit PNGs work?

Yes. They are stored at 8 bits per channel, the depth PDF viewers show on screen anyway.

Are the screenshots uploaded?

No. The PDF is built in your browser, which matters when screenshots show account numbers or order details.
