Word to PDF

Application forms, job portals and court or university submissions often accept PDF only. This page turns a DOCX, an old DOC, an OpenDocument ODT or an RTF file into a PDF whose pages will not shift when someone else opens or prints it.

DOCX · DOC · ODT · RTF · folders and pasted images work too

How to use the Word to PDF converter

  1. Pick the documents to convert. Each file can be as large as 95 MB.
  2. Start the conversion. If you added several files, they are handled in order, one at a time.
  3. Save every PDF separately, or take the whole set as one ZIP.

Why a PDF before you send it

A Word file is reflowed by whatever program opens it, so a CV that fits on two pages on your laptop can spill onto a third elsewhere. A PDF freezes the page: margins, tables, headers, footers, footnotes, images and page numbers stay where LibreOffice placed them.

The fonts in your text are embedded as subsets, which means the recipient does not need them installed. Headings styled as Heading 1, 2 and so on turn into a bookmark outline, and links inside the document remain clickable.

Font matching on our side

The conversion uses LibreOffice rather than Microsoft Word. Calibri becomes Carlito and Cambria becomes Caladea, free fonts drawn to the same letter widths. The Liberation family stands in for Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New. Because the widths match, lines usually break where Word breaks them.

A paid or rare typeface missing from the file gets a similar free substitute, and a paragraph may then end a line sooner or later. When strict page count matters, turn on font embedding in Word under File, Options, Save, and convert again.

The file is uploaded, briefly

Unlike the PDF tools on this site, which work inside your browser, Word layout needs a full office suite. Your document is therefore sent to our server over HTTPS and processed in a sandbox that has no internet access.

Both the original and the PDF are deleted right after the result is returned to you. Nothing is kept for later and no download link is created.

Questions

Will a password-protected DOCX work?

No. If Word asks for a password before showing the text, our server cannot open it either. Open it in Word, remove the password, save and try again.

Do comments and tracked changes show?

Margin comments are not exported. Unresolved tracked changes can appear highlighted, so accept or reject them before converting a final copy.

How many files can I convert?

Up to 40 server conversions in any ten-minute window, with no daily cap and no sign-up.
