Fill PDF form

Administrative staff, landlords, educators, and applicants frequently handle paperwork distributed as fillable PDF files. Rather than printing physical sheets, you can complete tax and benefit forms, rental leases, school permission slips, and HR onboarding documents directly in your web browser. Powered locally by pdf.js and pdf-lib, personal records and financial entries remain strictly on your workplace computer.

How to use the Fill PDF Form

  1. Load your official employment, rental, or school PDF form.
  2. Type answers and mark selections using the "On the page" view or the scrollable "List".
  3. Track your progress on the counter bar and decide whether to enable "Lock answers (flatten)".
  4. Download your finished paperwork as <original name>-filled.pdf without changing the blank template.

Desk paperwork workflows, supported inputs, and character limitations

Everyday office tasks require processing fillable paperwork supplied by agencies, housing authorities, and employers. This desk tool handles standard AcroForm documents, supporting single-line inputs, multi-line comment boxes, character count restrictions, comb boxes formatted with one letter per square, checkboxes, radio buttons, and drop-down menus. Read-only fields remain visible for review but cannot be altered, while action buttons and signature fields are skipped. Entering answers uses standard Helvetica covering Western European accents like é, ñ, ü, ß, and ø. Entries in foreign writing systems such as Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese characters, or Vietnamese diacritics are rejected with a notice naming the field.

Office staff handling payroll forms and tenant agreements require strict data confidentiality. Because processing runs in your browser without uploads, watermarks, or page limits, private records remain on your local machine. The tool processes one PDF at a time, downloading the result as <original name>-filled.pdf while leaving your blank template untouched. Scanned flat forms without active fields cannot be completed here; the page notifies you and links to Add Text to PDF so you can type onto blank lines. Adobe LiveCycle XFA dynamic forms cannot be filled, and password-protected PDFs that need a password to open must be opened with Unlock PDF first.

Visual and list navigation, field counters, and answer locking

Depending on your workstation setup, you can switch between "On the page" and "List". The "On the page" view displays clickable fields right where they sit on the document sheets. In contrast, "List" arranges items vertically alongside their titles or tooltips, opening first on mobile devices so staff can type comfortably. Both modes modify the same answers. The interface tracks progress showing counts like "3 of 12 filled", Tab moves to the next field, and "Clear all" empties every answer across the document.

Before exporting, check whether recipients need to change entries. The option "Lock answers (flatten)" starts disabled, leaving form inputs adjustable so coworkers can modify data later. Turning the option on imprints selections directly onto page sheets and eliminates editable boxes, which produces consistent paper prints and prevents alterations, matching Flatten PDF. To add a drawn authorization mark, use Sign PDF, or compile responses from multiple returned forms into a spreadsheet using Export PDF form data.

Questions

Can an applicant complete an onboarding form on a smartphone?

Yes. On mobile devices, the tool opens automatically in "List" view, presenting each field with its title so you can enter answers comfortably.

Should office staff enable "Lock answers (flatten)" before emailing files?

Enable it if you want to make responses permanent before printing or archiving. Leave it disabled if recipients need to adjust answers.

Why does the downloaded paperwork have a different filename?

The tool appends -filled.pdf to your file name so your original blank form remains untouched on your drive.
