How to use the Extract RAR
- Choose the .rar file from your downloads or the email attachment you saved.
- Type the password if the sender gave you one.
- Click Extract, then save single files, or use Download all to receive everything as a ZIP that any office PC can open.
RAR4 and RAR5 both open
Since WinRAR 5.0 (2013) archives can be written in the RAR5 format, which brought BLAKE2 checksums, larger dictionaries and AES-256. Plenty of older unpacking apps never learned it and fail without a clear reason. This page reads RAR5 as well as the older RAR format.
Solid archives and recovery records, both common in files passed around between firms, are handled without any setting to change.
When the file list itself is locked
RAR can encrypt just the contents, in which case you see the document names but need the password to save them. It can also encrypt the headers, and then nothing is visible until the password is accepted. In that case a wrong password is reported immediately.
Free software may unpack RAR but may not create it; the compressor is licensed by WinRAR's authors only. If you need to forward the documents in an archive, repack them with our converters for RAR to ZIP and RAR to 7Z.
Questions
Can I take just one file out of a big RAR?
Yes. Each document has its own button, so you can save the single invoice you need. When an archive holds thousands of files, only forty buttons are drawn plus a tally of the remainder; Download all still includes every file.
What about part1.rar, part2.rar sets?
Multi-part RARs are not supported, because the page opens one archive file at a time. Ask the sender for a single archive.
Is it allowed to open RAR without WinRAR?
Yes. The unRAR source code may be used freely for extracting; its licence only forbids using it to build a RAR compressor.
