PDF to TIFF

Electronic fax gateways, medical record systems, and municipal archives often require incoming documents in TIFF format rather than PDF. Re-saving digital contracts, court exhibits, or patient records as standardized TIFF images ensures compatibility with older document management systems. This in-browser tool renders PDF pages into high-fidelity TIFF files with pdf.js, keeping private records on your office machine.

How to convert PDF to TIFF

  1. Add your PDF contract, financial report, or legal pleading into the conversion window.
  2. Select your required "Resolution", choosing 200 DPI for faxes or 300 DPI for legal archives.
  3. Pick your "Colour" mode, such as 1-bit "Black and white" for faxes or "Greyscale" for records.
  4. Click convert to download a consolidated multi-page TIFF or a ZIP of separate page images.

Fax system requirements, resolution tags, and bilevel thresholding

Legal filing systems, insurance platforms, and corporate fax machines frequently reject PDF files, requiring multi-page TIFFs encoded to specific resolutions. The rendering engine converts vector text and embedded pictures into pixel bitmaps using pdf.js at your chosen "Resolution". Options include 72 DPI for web previews, 150 DPI for compact drafts, 200 DPI as the default (close to fax fine mode), and 300 DPI for archival printing. The chosen resolution is written into the TIFF header tags so physical dimensions remain correct when printed.

The "Colour" dropdown enables administrators to match strict institutional reception requirements. Choose "Colour (RGB)" for full color, "Greyscale" for black-and-white photographic forms, or "Black and white" for binary 1-bit output. The black-and-white mode uses a 50% luminance threshold to produce minimal file sizes, matching the exact format expected by corporate fax servers and long-term electronic record repositories.

LZW archive compression, page selection, and protected files

Output files are compressed using lossless LZW compression, which is supported by virtually all enterprise document management systems, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, and image editors. For color and grayscale documents, a horizontal predictor step is included to enhance compression efficiency on text documents. This ensures your exported archives remain lightweight without discarding visual information.

Under the "Output" menu, you can export all pages into "One multi-page TIFF" or generate "One TIFF per page" saved in a convenient ZIP archive. When handling long transcripts, navigate to the Pages field in advanced settings to designate specific page numbers or ranges, such as 1-3, 8. If an incoming PDF is secured by a password, remove the protection using Unlock PDF prior to beginning TIFF conversion.

Questions

Which color setting is recommended for electronic fax submissions?

Select "Black and white" with 200 DPI resolution, which creates compact 1-bit bilevel images formatted specifically for fax gateways.

Does LZW compression cause any loss in document sharpness?

No. LZW is completely lossless, preserving every rendered pixel so fine print, legal clauses, and stamps stay legible.

Can I export only the signature page from a multi-page contract?

Yes. Type the desired page number into the Pages field under advanced settings to render only that specific sheet.
